***MUSICAL MEMOS***
Last issue, I mentioned that, in addition to continuing the work on a new CD, I've started writing music for film and TV. I'm excited to report that I've just signed my first contract with an East Coast music library that wants to use some of my new music. See you on the History Channel (or wherever)! Some dear friends of mine who work within the Holotropic Breathwork community (see the writings of Stan Grof to learn more about breathwork) have gently prodded me to write more "breathwork music". In years past, I've written a couple of pieces, some of which have been used in breathwork sessions ("Percocious" is one of them). My friends' encouragement is adding more motivation to begin seriously working on the percussion project, Skin, Wood, & Metal. I think I have more ideas than I have the time to develop them :-). ***SPIRITUALLY SPEAKING***
(The following content is merely another note to myself. You may or may not find these words apply to you. Take what you like, and leave the rest. :-) Believe in the Power of Love Trust in the Benevolence of the Universe Honor your Process Love yourself I've been reciting that four-line verse for many years. It just came to me one day, and it's as helpful today as it was when I first started utilizing its principles. Believe in the Power of Love. Power wins out over Force (see especially, David R. Hawkins, Power vs. Force, Chapter 8). The greatest Power is Love. Love ultimately prevails; its Power is infinitely greater than Force. It unites rather than divides; it nurtures rather than attacks. Trust in the Benevolence of the Universe. Albert Einstein reportedly said, "The most important question any human being can ask themselves is, 'Is this a friendly Universe?'" Love, Consciousness, and the Universe are all One; it's all the same thing, and that means the universe is benevolent. If we experience pain, it's due to our ego, not the capricious nature of the Universe, Self, God (use whatever term makes the most sense to you). Honor your Process. It's almost a cliché in the psychotherapy community: Where you are is exactly where you need to be. I'll add something more: you've attracted your current situation into your life. The easy temptation is to blame others (God?) for your "misfortune" instead of taking responsibility for everything that happens in your life. Wherever you are is where you are; you can't be anywhere else than where you are right now. Where you go from here is up to you. Honor that choice, and that process. Love yourself. One way to honor your process is to practice less judgment and more compassion, starting with yourself. You can't give love if you're busy condemning yourself (and subsequently projecting it outward onto others). I'm increasingly aware of my tendency to think critically of someone else, only to realize that I'm guilty of the same thing. I suppose having that realization is progress. The next step is to catch myself before I broadcast a critical thought into the Universe (where every thought and action is recorded forever). The final stage is when I'm not even inclined to think such an unloving thought. It's a worthy goal. (See Portia Nelson's poem, below.) Believe in the Power of Love Trust in the Benevolence of the Universe Honor your Process Love yourself ***POINTS TO PONDER / IN OTHER NEWS***
When writing the "love yourself" part above, I remembered a poem that expresses the idea well. When I worked in the addictions field, this was a common "handout" for the clients: Autobiography in Five Short Chapters By Portia Nelson
Chapter I I walk down the street.
There is a deep hole in the sidewalk.
I fall in
I am lost . . . I am helpless
It isn't my fault.
It takes forever to find a way out. Chapter II
I walk down the same street.
There is a deep hole in the sidewalk.
I pretend I don't see it.
I fall in again.
I can't believe I am in the same place.
But, it isn't my fault.
It still takes a long time to get out. Chapter III
I walk down the same street
There is a deep hole in the sidewalk.
I see it is there.
I still fall in . . . it's a habit.
My eyes are open.
I know where I am.
It is my fault.
I get out immediately. Chapter IV
I walk down the same street.
There is a deep hole in the sidewalk.
I walk around it. Chapter V
I walk down another street. **AND THE WINNER IS ... ***
