Here's an overview of what you'll find in this issue:

  • Musical Memos
  • Spiritually Speaking
  • Points to Ponder / In Other News
  • And the Winner Is ...

***MUSICAL MEMOS***

This newsletter follows the Thanksgiving holiday (in America), which offers a built-in opportunity to consider all the things we have to be grateful for.

In some ways, this point was made clearer to me this year because I spent the holiday in bed, under the weather for the first time in well over a year.

It provided me an important occasion for reflection, e.g., how grateful I am for the excellent health I enjoy (most of the time, at least :-). On the other hand, being under the weather also really put me behind schedule for some important projects!

With the winter holiday season now upon us, and some scheduled time out of town already on the calendar, it will be interesting to see how many pending projects will make much progress in the next month.

As always, I'll keep you posted (IKYP).

***SPIRITUALLY SPEAKING***

(Inspired by a thoughtful response to last month's entry, here's a continuation of that discussion.)

Thoughts are energy, too. Think carefully.

Thoughts ARE energy. It's not just our actions, or even our words; thoughts are energy, too. Thoughts precede both words and actions, which are simply energy made manifest.

When you think about it, it takes energy to entertain any thought, good or bad (hmm, let me think about that last statement and see how much energy I use :-). The more we think about any topic, the more energy we feed it; and whatever we feed, grows, whether we speak it or act it out.

Although we may commit "thoughtless" actions, or "speak without thinking," the fact is that it is none other than our very own brain that tells our mouth what sounds to form (i.e., what words to utter) and, in the extreme, tells our fist what (or whom!) to strike.

Thoughts, words, and actions are all expressions of energy.

Here's an important thing to remember about energy: once it's generated, it tends to seek expression. Energy has to do something; it has to go somewhere; it has to express itself somehow.

That can get us into trouble sometimes, especially when we try to deny or avoid expressing certain energy (i.e., the thoughts we "shouldn't" have). That's because suppressing or "stuffing" certain thoughts, without speaking or acting them, leads to psychosomatic symptoms; the trapped energy has to show up somewhere, so it shows up in our physicality, as physical or emotional symptoms.

Sooner or later, we have to express the energy generated by our thoughts; it's a law of human physics. So it behooves us to consider carefully what thoughts we entertain (and how we choose to manifest those thoughts).

If you're trying to keep score, i.e., wondering whether your bad thoughts might be cancelling out your good thoughts, remember that higher-energy thoughts are far more powerful than lower-energy thoughts (fortunately for us).

The trick is to think more good thoughts than bad thoughts. Pretty simple, huh? Learn to catch yourself when a negative thought emerges, and choose to turn your attention to thoughts that reflect higher levels of consciousness. We choose what we think. And we energize what we think about.

Thoughts are energy, too. Think carefully.

***POINTS TO PONDER / IN OTHER NEWS***

What Love Means (part 2 of 2)
Touching words from the mouth of babes

A group of professional people posed this question to a group of 4 to 8 year-olds: "What does love mean?"

The answers they got were broader and deeper than anyone could have imagined. See what you think:

  • "Love is what's in the room with you at Christmas if you stop opening presents and listen." Bobby - age 7 (Wow!)
  • "If you want to learn to love better, you should start with a friend who you hate." Nikka - age 6 (we need a few million more Nikka's on this planet)
  • "Love is when you tell a guy you like his shirt, then he wears it everyday." Noelle - age 7
  • "Love is like a little old woman and a little old man who are still friends even after they know each other so well." Tommy - age 6
  • "During my piano recital, I was on a stage and I was scared. I looked at all the people watching me and saw my daddy waving and smiling. He was the only one doing that. I wasn't scared anymore." Cindy - age 8
  • "My mommy loves me more than anybody. You don't see anyone else kissing me to sleep at night." Clare - age 6
  • "Love is when Mommy gives Daddy the best piece of chicken." Elaine - age 5
  • "Love is when Mommy sees Daddy smelly and sweaty and still says he is handsomer than Brad Pitt." Chris - age 7
  • "Love is when your puppy licks your face even after you left him alone all day." Mary Ann - age 4
  • "I know my older sister loves me because she gives me all her old clothes and has to go out and buy new ones." Lauren - age 4
  • "When you love somebody, your eyelashes go up and down and little stars come out of you." Karen - age 7 (what an image!)
  • "Love is when Mommy sees Daddy on the toilet and she doesn't think it's gross." Mark - age 6
  • "You really shouldn't say 'I love you' unless you mean it. But if you mean it, you should say it a lot. People forget." Jessica - age 8

The winner was a four-year-old child whose next door neighbor was an elderly gentleman who had recently lost his wife.

Upon seeing the man cry, the little boy went into the old gentleman's yard, climbed onto his lap, and just sat there.

When his Mother asked what he had said to the neighbor, the little boy said,

"Nothing, I just helped him cry."
