MUSICAL MEMOS

Okay. No more predictions about when the next CD will be released. While I've been waiting for a new piece of software to arrive, so I could put the final touches on some of the new tracks, the good folks at Spectrasonics have pushed back the release date for their Trillian bass module to the end of October. On top of that, I've been in the process of moving into a new residence for much of this past month. Fortunately, I've been able to enjoy a leisurely move; nevertheless, I'd forgotten how much time and energy it takes to move. So, I guess the CD will be released whenever it's released. How's that for project management?!

Along with the CD, I'm falling a bit behind on developing the new website. I've got a radio interview almost ready to post on leela-radio.com. Keep an eye out for my interview with Jonathan Scott. I hope to have it posted soon.

SPIRITUALLY SPEAKING

The only constant is change. Embrace it.

The only constant is change? While, on the surface, that may look like a contradiction, in reality it's a common, everyday paradox that we all experience.

Our bodies are constantly changing, replacing old cells with new cells. We get older; that's change. We get smarter (well, let's hope so). Fortunes increase; fortunes decrease. We lose relationships; we gain new ones. We get a new job; we leave an old one. We move to a new residence (see where the inspiration for this month's topic comes from? :-). The list goes on and on. Life is all about change.

Of course, the question is, in which direction are we changing? We can change for the better, or for the worse. The old saying, "If nothing changes, nothing changes," doesn't always hold true. For example, if our diet doesn't change, our health can get worse, much worse depending on what we've been putting into our bodies for the last several years.

The same thing is true for some of the thoughts and feelings that we entertain in our heads and hearts. If some thoughts never change, and let's say those are negative thoughts and feelings, our health can decline in a big way. Remember, thoughts and feelings are things, and they generate energy which can manifest in unhealthy physical or emotional symptoms (heck, pretty much every malady is psychosomatic when you get right down to it).

While I know some people (maybe you do, too) who don't seem to have entertained a new idea in the past 30 years, refusing to change also involves change. Here's what I mean. Resisting change is like swimming against a current, which expends energy and ultimately depletes energy reserves and our ability to deal with life in the future. And if we're not careful, swimming against the current can just plain wear us out, and then we drown!

The best way to deal with change is to, well, deal with it. We have a tendency to avoid it. Most folks really don't like change, do they (do we)? Think about it. Every time a new policy or procedure is announced at work, how many groans do we hear? and how many are ours?

Better than just dealing with change, I like the idea of embracing it. Embracing (acceptance) goes a lot farther than resistance (denial), and since change is inevitable anyway, embracing change just seems to make the whole adventure more palatable. Plus, we save energy. Remember, swimming against the current not only wears us out, it depletes our energy reserves, making it harder for us to deal with future change.

Most of the time, there's a blessing involved in whatever change comes our way. Even the stuff that seems bad (which, in truth, we probably attracted into our lives at some level) usually has a hidden benefit just waiting to be discovered. Sometimes the most seemingly awful events turn into the most important changes in our lives. So, I like to try to embrace every change as though it offers a gift and a blessing.

The only constant is change. Embrace it.

POINTS TO PONDER / IN OTHER NEWS

Lemon Meringue Pie

This should probably be taped to your bathroom mirror where you could read it every day. You may not realize it, but it's 100% true.

  1. There are at least two people in this world that you would die for.
  2. At least 15 people in this world love you in some way.
  3. The only reason anyone would ever hate you is because they want to be just like you.
  4. A smile from you can bring happiness to anyone, even if they don't like you.
  5. Every night, SOMEONE thinks about you before they go to sleep.
  6. You mean the world to someone.
  7. You are special and unique.
  8. Someone that you don't even know exists loves you.
  9. When you make the biggest mistake ever, something good comes from it.
  10. When you think the world has turned its back on you, take another look.
  11. Always remember the compliments you received. Forget about the rude remarks.

And always remember ... when life hands you Lemons, ask for the recipe for a Lemon Meringue Pie and share it with someone you love!
