MUSICAL MEMOS

The official promotion of the new CD, The Promise, begins on October 1. A few comments and reviews are already starting to trickle in, and the initial comments are very gratifying.

While the distribution, as of today, is limited to CDBaby.com, we'll eventually get out to iTunes, Amazon, etc. over the next few weeks. In the meantime, you may hear the entire CD on the Leela Radio website. Just click here.

Besides the promotional activities, I'm still editing the latest radio interview with Jonathan Scott Halverstadt. And I'm still percolating some ideas for music videos that will eventually accompany this album. Stay tuned.

SPIRITUALLY SPEAKING

Reconnect with nature; reconnect with yourself.

The newest Ken Burns documentary, National Parks: America's Best Idea, is now being broadcast on PBS. As someone who grew up near Yosemite, and visited it often as a youngster, I easily related to the images of that grand National Park, and others, that I saw on the TV screen.

And then the words of John Muir started to resonate with me.

Nature is sacred. Connecting with nature is how we connect with ourselves, because we are a part of nature, and we come from nature.

In the 21st Century, it's easy to lose that connection with our natural source. Even in the rural areas, we drive our air-conditioned cars, with the windows rolled up; we live in our well-insulated dwellings, breathing filtered air; we immerse ourselves, not in natural spring water, but in indoor showers; we spend our free time gazing, not at the trees, rocks, and streams, but at high-definition videos, all the while texting on our mobile phones.

Some of us can't remember the last time we spent more than five minutes outside, just being with nature, just breathing in the life-giving energy that surrounds us.

We've cut ourselves off from the wellspring of our very existence.

We can take all the vitamin supplements in the world, but if we don't spend some time communing with nature, we're still going to experience some sort of deficiency, the kind that only communing with nature can remedy.

Whether it's the mountains, the ocean, the desert, or someplace else, it's important to take some time and just be, yourself, in nature.

Reconnect with nature, and reconnect with yourself.
