MUSICAL MEMOSThe radio promotion for the new CD, The Promise, is at the halfway point. I invite you to check out the latest reviews by visiting Leela Music Press Reviews. "The Promise Interviews", with Jonathan Scott Halverstadt, are now available at Leela Radio. You can listen to the entire CD, with comments and discussion ... rather like the commentary that accompanies some DVDs these days. It was fun to spend some more time with Jonathan; I hope you enjoy the interview. In addition to CDBaby.com, The Promise is also available on iTunes, Amazon.com, etc. Of course, you may hear the entire CD at any time on Leela Radio. The first video to accompany this album, "Ascending Through Clouds", is just about ready to launch. Keep an eye out for that in the next few days.
SPIRITUALLY SPEAKINGReady. Set. Grow. In "The Promise Interviews", Jonathan Scott and I were discussing the track "Expansion". In that discussion, Jonathan likened expansion to the transformation of the Monarch Butterfly from chrysalis to its full and glorious winged manifestation. Each of us, like the caterpillar, has something glorious into which we can grow, or develop. At some level, we even already know what that destiny is, although we may have temporarily forgotten the details. That idea got me thinking of something I read by Baird Spalding: "... just as a seed knows that within itself it has the power to express the greatest, so must we know that we have the power within ourselves to express the greatest. ... the frailest poppy seed and the mightiest banyan tree, the bulb, the plant, the tree seed, all know that they can express the greatest. Each has an exact picture or representation of what it must express. So must we have an exact picture within ourselves of what we desire to express. Then there must be an inner perfection wrought by hourly preparation and this perfection will come forth. No flower ever burst into full bloom without this perfecting inner urge" (Baird Spalding, Life and Teaching of the Masters of the Far East, vol. 1, p. 66). "As the seed must first burst its shell in order to grow, so must we burst our shell in order to grow, so must we burst our shell of limitation to begin our growth" (Baird Spalding, Life and Teaching of the Masters of the Far East, vol. 1, p. 67). The only thing holding us back from our full realization, our full potential, is ourselves. Like the caterpillar, we don't always have a complete understanding of what glory awaits us. But, also like the caterpillar, the future is breathtaking, and beautiful. What are we waiting for? Ready. Set. Grow.
POINTS TO PONDER / IN OTHER NEWSCompany Quotes A MAGAZINE RECENTLY RAN A "DILBERT QUOTES" CONTEST. THEY WERE LOOKING FOR PEOPLE TO SUBMIT QUOTES FROM THEIR REAL-LIFE DILBERT-TYPE MANAGERS. HERE ARE THE TOP TEN FINALISTS: - "As of tomorrow, employees will only be able to access the building using individual security cards. Pictures will be taken next Wednesday and employees will receive their cards in two weeks." (This was the winning quote from Fred Dales, Microsoft Corp. in Redmond, WA)
- "What I need is an exact list of specific unknown problems we might encounter." (Lykes Lines Shipping)
- "E-mail is not to be used to pass on information or data. It should be used only for company business." (Accounting manager, Electric Boat Company)
- "This project is so important, we can't let things that are more important interfere with it." (Advertising/Marketing manager, United Parcel Service)
- "Doing it right is no excuse for not meeting the schedule." (Plant manager, Delco Corporation)
- "No one will believe you solved this problem in one day! We've been working on it for months. Now, go act busy for a few weeks and I'll let you know when it's time to tell them." (R&D supervisor, Minnesota Mining and Manufacturing/3M Corp.)
- Quote from the Boss: "Teamwork is a lot of people doing what I say." (Marketing executive, Citrix Corporation)
- My sister passed away and her funeral was scheduled for Monday. When I told my Boss, he said she died on purpose so that I would have to miss work on the busiest day of the year. He then asked if we could change her burial to Friday. He said, "That would be better for me." (Shipping executive, FTD Florists)
- One day my Boss asked me to submit a status report to him concerning a project I was working on. I asked him if tomorrow would be soon enough. He said, "If I wanted it tomorrow, I would have waited until tomorrow to ask for it!" (Hallmark Cards executive)
